METALFEST (GERMANY) & BERLIN: 12 - 17 MAY 2010

All pictures are 800 × 600 pixels. Those of you who know how to ask me for a higher resolution should do so if you really need it.

A review of the festival can be found in two parts: 1 - 2. I never wrote about the time in Berlin, but I'm sure the pictures tell their own story.

SUNDAY 16.05.2010: IN BERLIN
The Bode Museum, and the TV tower in the background
More firelighting at the Lemke Brauhaus (Hackescher Markt, Dircksenstraße, Mitte)
I opt for Lemke's Maibock: it is a fine brew!
Dave being unsociable in Marcus-Bräu (Münzstraße 1-3, Mitte)
My Good Beer Guide to Germany attracts extra attention amongst Marcus-Bräu's bar staff, who are thrilled to see themselves included - even if her face doesn't quite show the excitement...
The barman and the vast selection of mead at Rock und Wikinger-bar, Dolziger Straße 24, Friedrichshain. And yes, the horns are for drinking from...
...as I demonstrate, wearing their leather horned helmet as well.
Dave liked their chilli tequila so much, he had a second shot
Schloßbrau's Odin-Trunk (made with extra honey) and Lausitzer Porter: two of the fine beers I had at Rock und Wikinger-bar - where we stayed until gone three in the morning!
We had some fine company!

MONDAY 17.05.2010
The Brandenburg Gate, as seen from the former communist side
On the other side of the gate, looking down Unter den Linden into the decadent capitalist West
The East's notorious two-stroke resin-bodied shitheap finds new employment as an advertising board
A fragment of the wall still remains as a memorial, seen from the East side...
...and the West
More of the wall, a less well-kept section...
...along Leipziger Straße
Another Trabbie put to good use; also seen, East Germany's famous Ampelmann, now an industry all of its own
"Trabi-Safari" is apparently a tour of Berlin in Europe's worst car ever
Now! That's What I Call Optimistic
Checkpoint Charlie: now a tourist attraction
Currywurst: Berlin's most famous fast food
The back of the Reichstag
The front of the Reichstag
A veteran car with very weird controls, outside a hotel near the Brandenburg Gate
"Trinkt mehr Bier!" is the message from Lindenbräu
Lindenbräu's in-house silver brewing paraphernalia
Someone in Friedrichshain's got the right idea!
Another famous metal bar in Berlin: Halford!
Inside Halford... it reminds Dave of the Three Of Cups in New York, with all its red lighting
A huge hand, a Viking shield, and lots of Marshall stack amps on the wall... I like this place!
...and I celebrate with more mead!
