JORVIK VIKING FESTIVAL, 20 FEBRUARY 2010

All pictures are 800 × 450 pixels and taken using the still facility on a video camera.

A review can be found here; it may say "Day Two" but as there was only one day that I took pictures on, this is all I have to link to...

The shield wall lines up for a new assault
The swordless trainees poke each other with spears
Now that's more like it!
Ben Potter with Arthur, the white headed vulture
Kit is impressed with the longboat!
They're not the crew. They just think they are.
Can you feel the power... of the Gladiators?
And the helmet that all good Romans are seen wearing all the time...
The caldarium, showing the remains of the hypocaust.
I approve of the boat. Or, rather, what will eventually happen to it.
The Mercians have a strop, and attack the Danes for daring to not roll over and die...
...but the Danes fight back, and win the first round. Dead Mercians lie strewn on the ground, ready for an afterlife of sheer puritanical boredom.
The Mercians stand in front of us, being exceptionally rude about the Danes, who are forming their battle line at the opposite end of the field.
The Danes heard what the Mercians said about them, and the resulting scene is uglier than a Newcastle bar brawl...
...and when all is said and done, a Danish victory means the three kings will be sent to Valhalla in a burning boat - good for us and them.
